CALLING ALL BUDDING YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS!

The Rotary Club of Leven are on the search for enthusiastic young photographers for the Rotary Young Photographer Competition 2011. With a chance to win a cash prize, this is your opportunity to show you care about your community and environment.

The theme for the 2011 competition is 'Have some pride – keep Scotland tidy', allowing a broad interpretation of subject matter, and judges will be looking for imagination and style, as well as technical merit, content and composition.

This exciting competition offers youngsters who live within the greater Levenmouth area the opportunity to enter their photographs in one of three age group categories – under 12 years, 12-15 years and 16-18 years. Photographs can be snapped with digital or film cameras in colour or monochrome but all entries must be submitted as prints no larger than A4 size by the closing date of Friday 6th May 2011.

The judging panel will include an experienced photographer, an environmental representative and members of the Rotary Club of Leven.

Trophies and certificates will be presented to the winners at an award ceremony, the location which will be advised at a later date.

Jim Houston, the photographic competition organiser from Leven Rotary, commented, "One of the main aims of the competition is to get young people out there translating their ideas into images and this certainly is a challenge but judging by the standard last time young photographers used great imagination and skill to produce some stunning pictures. It is great that the theme focuses on our impact on the beautiful Scottish environment, and hope that this will encourage more people to take pride in, and ownership of, the areas they live in. We will be offering a workshop for interested participants to pass on tips from a professional photographer. The workshops will be held at Buckhaven Theatre on Saturday 12th March.

The photographs of the chosen finalists will be exhibited at Methil Heritage Centre prior to the final judging. We very much look forward to seeing the entries for the 2011 competition – so, get out there and get snapping!!"
