The Rotary Club of Leven was started just prior to the outbreak of World War II and was chartered in April 1939 with Cupar Rotary the "Mother Club".
Interesting at the time was that the eara was classed as Residential, Industrial, Suburban Rural and as being a holiday resort. The principal business activities were quoted as being: paper making, linen manufacture and mining.
In 1939 the area boasted 1 accountant, 5 banks, 7 churches, 4 medical men, 2 newspapers, 4 solicitors, 2 elimentary schools, 1 secondary school and 1 private school. The area also had 5 hotels and 3 cafes.
The inaugural meeting luncheon was held on 24th January 1939 and 23 Clubs were represented by 60 guests.
